Unitech Zephyros-One

Unitech Zephyros-One is the world’s first floating wind turbine. It has been generating power since 2009, maintaining an average of 99% uptime during 2022. We were the first to mount a helicopter deck on a floating wind turbine.
The ownership of this turbine has given Zephyros significant knowledge and experience within all aspects of operations and maintenance. We acquired the wind turbine from Equinor in 2019 (“Hywind Demo”). Today, Unitech Zephyros-One is an important part of the Marin Energy Test Centre ‘s  (MET Centre)  focus.

Unitech Zephyros-One is placed west of Karmøy (Haugesund, Norway)

R&D Center
Our R&D Center at Bømlo was finished in 2022.

Our R&D Center

We have built a full scale R&D Center (action Research, evidence based Development Center) at Rubbestadneset (Bømlo, Norway). Here we establish a main hub for developing competence in Norwegian ocean wind. Apprentices, professionals and researchers can develop in an integrated environment. The building is 8,000 square meters and we run activities together with Vestland County Council, Talent Arena, LOS Group, and others. The R&D Center was completed in 2022.

In the center you will find multi tasking room, laboratories, control room, auditorium, vocational school, meeting facilities, etc.

Thunder Bay – our production facility

We are constructing a marshalling port, an assembly site, at Thunder Bay (Tømmerviken, Stord, Norway) where all the parts of the offshore wind turbine are put together. The facility is 200,000 square meters. Our deep-water harbor of 140 meters makes it possible to prepare the turbines for unmooring to the fields in the North Sea.

Thunder Bay
Our deep-water harbour is ready to prepare the offshore wind turbines for unmooring to the North Sea.
Cabel production
We have lots of experience with flexible super cables at Sea.

Super Cable production

We manufacture our own patented high voltage dynamic Super Cables at Eldøyane (Stord, Norway). The production facility is located next to Thunder Bay at Stord. Today, the MET Center uses our operational and fully proven super cables.
