ZEPHYROS OCEAN ACADEMY is proud to announce Norway’s first in-country training and certification program for “High Voltage Authorized Persons” for the offshore wind industry will commence on Monday 12thJune at UNITECH ENERGY’s Eldøyane campus, located on the island of Stord.
ZEPHYROS OCEAN ACADEMY has created an exclusive partnership with the prestigious UK-based Faraday Centre Ltd, who specialize in training and certifying international high voltage electrical engineers and technicians, equipping them with the competencies required to undertake “Authorized Persons” positions within the world’s top tier power production and manufacturing companies.
The first course being offered is entitled “The Safe Operation Of High Voltage Power Systems On Wind Turbines (Authorized Person)”. This initial offering is in response to the expected increase in demand for qualified high voltage electrical personnel in line with the project pipeline of offshore wind turbines in various stages of development along the Norwegian coastline.
Founder & Chairman, Bernt Hellesøe’s vision of an active research and active learning facility that can equip the next generation of technicians, engineers and offshore service personnel with the competencies and real-world experience the require has been cemented by this exclusive cooperation with The Faraday Centre.
Together, Zephyros Ocean Academy and the Faraday Centre will provide the pathway for the acquisition of practical skills & experience that is required in order to compete with mainland Europe’s matured offshore renewable workforce.
Zephyros Ocean Academy intends to expand the scope and frequency of specialised electrical training courses to be operated by Faraday Centre at the Eldøyane campus, increasing value and benefits to their students with exposure to and immersion within UNITECH Energy’s offshore wind portfolio. The portfolio includes Zephyros-ONE floating wind turbine operations, their subsea cable manufacturing facility, their R&D Centre, access to the Marine Energy Technology (MET) Centre and Thunder Bay’s Deep Water Marshalling Port.
Together with the strong support provided by Stord Kommune, the Sustainable Energy Catapult and Invest in Sunnhordland and in close cooperation with local leaders of industry and Stord VGS & Bømlo VGS, Zephyros Ocean Academy intends to improve employment options for the community through the application of knowledge and skills needed to meet the exciting opportunities presented by the expansion of the offshore wind power sector \in Stord.
